(This is a re-print and digital translation of an article from 'TEETIME.DK' website about Lyngbygaard Golf Club - a review and the recent announcement that it may host a European Tour event in 2012)
Michelin Guide gives three stars to the gastronomic experience that is worth the trip. Whether the food in the elegant restaurant in Lyngbygaard Golf Club alone is worth the trip, the undersigned could not say - and there was unfortunately no time to explore this Saturday in April, but the golf course itself is a three star experience and certainly one trip worth!
No wonder that the smile is broad in Aarhus during this time. AGF is returning to football's premier league, cruise ships call regularly Pier 3 and 4 with moneyed tourists, and now the city has been a golf course very high class. And it's no Århus History. Perhaps the mayor Warming reintroduce the old logo of "city of smile, 'if - what little evidence - successfully director Balsby to get the European Tour to Lyngby yard early as 2012.
Until then you can very appropriate to focus on Golden Tour , which is a very exciting tournament for us amateur golfers on six of Scandinavia finest courses. Golden Tour has its first tournament on 10 May just at Lyngbygaard, and as you can read more about the www.teetime.dk .
Just 10 minutes drive from downtown Aarhus is L yngbygaard Golf Club. From the restaurant and the spacious terrace in the stylish clubhouse is a breathtaking view overlooking the serene countryside, where the American firm of architects von Hagge, Smelek & Baril with Thomas Bjorn as a consultant has brought 18 & 9 hole between hills, moors and heathland, which is adjacent to the picturesque hamlet of Lyngby, with granite churches and timbered houses.
vHS&B's CV offers courses such as Bay Hill and Doral Blue Monstor in Florida and Golf National near Paris, where both the aesthetic and tactical are weighted heavily. And Lyngbygård is both beautiful and challenging, even in April, without leaves on the trees and the rough is still comfortably low.
You do well to follow the recommendations for election of the tees, as indicated in the course guide. Tee '64 'for men with handicap less than 5, the tee '62' for ladies and gentlemen between 6-10 handicap, etc. - in all there are five different tees to choose from. "64" refers to the course distance of 6400 meters, '62' around. 6200 meters, etc.
The author, handicap 8.5, hit the ball pretty well that day, but there were still huge challenges from the tee '62'. Rarely has there been so much to the green during the second shot at the par-4 holes, most of whom are also very formidible - five of them are about 400 meters long!
The five par-3 holes relatively short, but they are protected very effectively by the water at the beautiful second hole and bunkers or waste areas on the other. On the par-5 holes - which also has five - it is more important thinking carefully than about hitting long. Except, that is, at the concluding 18th hole which is above all about finding the heavy artillery forward - here is 552 meters from the back tees ('64 '), 535 meters from the '62' and 520 meters from the '58 '! But otherwise course management is crucial on a track with lots of large waste areas and large undulating greens, where there are several possibilities to place the flag.
Although the track can be very challenging, it's simply a pleasure to play it. The bumpy and often very broad fairways wonderfully manicured, bunkers are of the highest quality, etc, etc. The only exception that day was the so called 'sandy waste' areas - lacked lsand. One must of course ground the club and remove pebbles, when you end up in such an area. But, it was clear that the sand in places it had flown away as the result of a recent and horrific windstorm which had sent the sand out to comfortably land in the rough and fairway. A coarser type of sand can certainly solve the problem. (Note/comment on this point - from me: The 'sandy waste' areas are simply native sand areas. And, the 'sand' is the native soil in these areas. It is fine in texture and size and when the wind blows, it moves and exposes stones.)
The greens are top class. Even here in early season rolls they accepted honestly, but you have to be sharp in his record. Of course one must remember to note which of the six 'pin placement areas' the flag is located, and it is crucial to think twice before going after the green.
The course guide should be studied carefully - it is far from always the most sensible to go straight after the flag. With greens that often lies across the playing direction, you end up very easily in a hazard, or you are with putts at both 25 and 30 meters to be up over one or more sloping plateaus ... There comes easy 3 - and even 4-putts on the score card, but conversely, you are proud when a rare occasion will read the line properly and gets beaten a good putt.
In any case, you get a great desire to return to Lyngbygaard. As my buddy (hcp. 3) said: - Anyone can learn something from playing on the runway here, because there are so many opportunities to develop his game. So I simply have to come back and try these greens again!
And it makes you feel like - to return to Lyngbygaard. But perhaps one should first get adjusted his swing and his equipment with Leif Nyholm, whose Golf Academy also keeps at Lyngby gaard. Here is more input and putting greens, and you can play off grass at the training. Like everything else in the club this is of the highest quality.
Finally, you now also want to explore the kitchen culinary level. Live it up to the restaurant's decor, which Paustian has stood for, there must also be stars in sight here.
