Existing 18th Green
Proposed 18th GreenThe sketch above is intended to provide the contractor with a visual reference of our intended design. We are adding a lake to the left of the green. The right side of the green slopes strongly from right to left. One issue with the existing hole is that players tend to play to the right side of the landing area, which puts them in danger from #10 tee. Part of the intent in this design is to make this approach (from the right) more difficult. The strong right to left slope on the green will be make an approach more difficult from the right of the fairway. The best approach angle is from the left side of the fairway. The green is more "receptive" from this angle.
The bunker back left is mainly a visual signal - providing depth perception and indicating the end of the putting surface. Sand is used in this case because the green resides within a tunnel of trees and is fairly dark. The sand will provide a strong visual contrast in this situation.
